EU insemination station & Waldschlösschen ('forest castle')

Built in 2006, the ‘Waldschlösschen’ (forest castle) is actually a modern stallion examination facility with 24 boxes and an attached riding hall. Before stallions are allowed to mate and pass on their genes, they have to go through certain examinations, including performance checks of varying durations that assess the horses’ exterior, pace, rideability and jumping suitability as well as their character and willingness. Neustadt (Dosse) is one of four examination stations nationwide.

Directly adjacent, we have the EU insemination station, where Neustadt’s state stallions are examined and sperm samples taken. We also extract, prepare and ship frozen sperm from here. This makes it possible to use the stallions stationed here far beyond the borders of Brandenburg, so many of them already have offspring all around the world.

These include the elite stallion and father of two world champions, Askari, Ben Benicio – who has had success in even the most difficult dressage classes, premium Holstein stallion Casskeni II, and DSP champion Eulenspiegel.

The Brandenburg Main and State Stud Foundation breeds German sport horses. But retaining breed diversity is one of the state stud’s missions. That’s why the stallion station also includes Rhenish-German coldbloods, German riding pony stallions and a Haflinger stallion for breeding.

Graf-Lehndorff Institute for Equine Sciences

The Graf-Lehndorff Institute for Equine Sciences – named after the Prussian state stable master from 1887 to 1911 – has also been housed here since 2007. It is a joint research facility of the Vienna University of Veterinary Medicine and the Brandenburg Main and State Stud Foundation. The research particularly covers breeding, horse husbandry and reproduction as well as training methods, and animal protection.
